Steps To Enroll at CSM

Registration Steps for Credit Courses

1. APPLY TO CSM

APPLY NOW online Your application will process in 1-2 business days and you can continue with the steps to enrolling. Your acceptance letter will be mailed to you in 7-10 business days.

2. APPLY FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND SCHOLARSHIPS

  • In order to see if you qualify for Financial Assistance, you must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.gov .
  • Make sure to use the federal school code for CSM: 002064.
  • Look for available scholarships at: www.csmd.edu/Financial/Scholarships

Transfer Students- Please note that if you are receiving financial assistance from another school you will need to log back in to your FAFSA account and indicate CSM as a recipient of your FAFSA form using our school code; 002064

3. TAKE THE PLACEMENT TEST OR SUBMIT COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS

Option 1 - CSM PLACEMENT TEST

Schedule the CSM placement test with one of our Testing Centers.

Option 2 - SAT/ACT SCORES

Submit proof of acceptable ACT or SAT scores. The placement test can be waived:

  • SAT: A score of 550 or higher in critical reading will waive the English portion of the placement test; A score of 550 or higher in math will waive the math placement test. Please note that some students who wish to take a higher level math course, should still take the math portion of the CSM Placement Test
  • ACT: A score of 21 or higher in reading and English will waive the English portion of the placement test; A score of 21 or higher in the math portion will waive the math placement test. Please note that some students who wish to take a higher level math course, should still take the math portion of the CSM Placement Test

Option 3 - TRANSFER STUDENTS

Students who already have college credits may submit their transcripts for evaluation. If you have not taken college level math or English, you may still need to take the placement test. Official evaluations may take up to 4-6 weeks, so completing this step early is helpful. Submit official, sealed transcripts to:

In some cases, advising can assist students with registration using an unofficial copy of their transcript while the official evaluation is taking place. Please contact advising for more information:

4. ATTEND AN ORIENTATION AND REGISTRATION SESSION

Learn how to access the college’s online portal- my.CSMD.edu, make your final class selections with an advisor, register for classes and make your payment. You must have already been admitted and taken the placement test prior to attending a Registration and Orientation Session. To schedule your appointment contact the campus of your choice:

5. MAKE PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS

At the time of registration you will be required to make payment arrangements. Payment options are as follows:

  • Pay 20% down (if registering prior to full payment deadline)
  • Full payment
  • Enroll in the FACTS payment plan
  • Submit tuition assistance paperwork to the Bursar’s Office
  • Have sufficient approved and processed financial assistance already in place
    (The CSM college code is 002064; it may take 4 weeks or more to process your request. If you have not completed a FAFSA form yet, you will need to make alternate payment arrangements and be reimbursed if/when you receive FAFSA funds)

6. ATTEND KICK OFF TO COLLEGE

The Kick Off to College gives new and transfer students a vital opportunity to learn about the CSM, ask questions, sign up for classes, get to know the campus, staff, faculty, and administration, and confidently begin your journey as a CSM student.  A program for parents, siblings, and guests runs concurrently with the lineup for students. KOTC takes place at La Plata, Leonardtown and Prince Frederick campuses.  The dates, locations, and how to register can be found at http://www.csmd.edu/StudentSuccess/kickoff.html.
