Hospitality ManagementThe College of Southern Maryland's Hospitality Management degree program is designed to prepare you for a career in the hospitality and tourism industry. After obtaining your associate degree, you may elect to transfer your coursework to a university in order to obtain a four-year degree. Your curriculum at the College of Southern Maryland will include instruction and training in hotel, travel, recreation, tourism, convention services, food service, and meeting planning and related service industries.The Hospitality Management program emphasizes the development of the knowledge and skills essential for the modern hospitality manager. CSM has responded to the demands of the growing leisure services industry by creating an exciting curriculum that is both hands-on and theoretical, allowing our students to become the best of the best. Real life learning and real world experiences will be a part of your regular curricular culture as a student enrolled in the College of Southern Maryland's Hospitality Management program. We will jump start your career by engaging you with the industry from the first day of your enrollment. You will be provided opportunities to attend state, regional and national trade shows, professional conferences and participate as a member in leading hospitality student organizations. You will also be afforded the opportunity to meet countless industry leaders in numerous professional settings both on campus and during field excursions enabling you to develop a professional network to assist you in your career endeavors. Your success will come from your professional and academic preparation as well as our mentorship. In addition to formal instruction, cooperative education internships are an integral part of the program and allow for on-the-job experiences in a wide variety of settings and occupations directly related to each student's career objectives. Your program consists of Hospitality Management classes, other hospitality related coursework, and the general education classes needed to complete your Associate of Applied Science degree. In this program you will learn the hands on operational skills and service requirements necessary to get ahead in the competitive leisure service industry. In addition, you will learn how to run computer systems that are used to assure operational propriety and guest satisfaction in the hospitality and tourism industries. Our hospitality & tourism courses and computer training have been designed to challenge you and give you the knowledge you need to be successful in any Hospitality career path you may choose. Our goal for you is to create an atmosphere of academic excitement and the experience of instruction that is second to none. survey course that introduces new students to the broad spectrum of the
leisure services industry. Typical career areas include food service,
lodging, travel/tourism, recreation, gaming and entertainment,
meetings, conventions and expositions. The course explores educational
options, professional career opportunities, industry trends, teamwork,
ethics, and the historical and operational perspectives within each
career component. In addition; students will examine the basic
functions of management and business administration principles as they
relate to a service oriented business model. HPM 1110 Managing Front Office Operations (3 credits)The
course will presents students with a systematic approach to managing
the front office operation through an examination of the critical
management functions and interdepartmental dynamics essential to
operational success and guest satisfaction at hotels, resorts and
timeshare properties. The course investigates revenue management,
business forecasting, budget planning, how blogging and social
networking affect hotels, the impact of automated information
technologies on a variety of front office functions, and manual backup
procedures for automated system failure. HPM 1210 Managing Service in Food and Beverage Operations (3 credits)The
course will introduce students to commonly used practices / principles
that food service professionals utilize to create and deliver
guest-driven service; enhance value and build guest loyalty; and
continuously improve the process of providing excellent service.
Students learn how every aspect of a food service operation contributes
to the guest experience, and explore unique features of service
delivery techniques for a variety of food and beverage operations. The
course includes material on service leadership, service skills, and
