Resumes

Your resume represents YOU and must capture the essence of who you are and what you bring to the employer. When selecting which information to highlight in your resume, remember that employers are interested in a broad range of skills, abilities, and interests. They may be found in your coursework, projects, work experiences, community experiences, leadership positions, or international experiences.

Create a general resume to work in most situations. Customize this resume when you have more information and are responding to a specific opportunity. You will make a greater impact with a resume which has been customized for the reader!

Letters

A cover letter always accompanies a resume, whether sent through the U.S. mail or email. Create a "shell" letter first, then customize it for each reader. The cover letter gives you the opportunity to display your enthusiasm for the position, your knowledge of the organization, and how your background and interests match their needs. Address your letter to a person whenever possible, preferably a manager in your field.

We strongly encourage you to send a thank you note after important interviews. A thank you note demonstrates strong follow up skills and gives you the opportunity to restate your interest in the position and show appreciation for the time they spent with you.
