Black Student Union (BSU)
This group is composed of students interested in promoting the unity and
awareness of African-Americans on campus. The BSU enhances the fellowship
and interests of students through cultural, political, educational,
and social programs. Past club activities include: participation in the
Annual Congressional Black Caucus, guest visitations by noted
personalities, campus visitations to area colleges and universities,
leadership conferences, teen summit meetings, and the sponsorship and
co-sponsorship of dances, shows and children’s programs. BSU membership
is open to all students of the college.
Computer User Group

The
Association for Information Technology meets to discuss current and local
issues in the computer field. Students who are taking computer classes or
are interested in pursuing a career in computers are encouraged to
participate. The group often sponsors speakers to discuss current trends
in software and hardware, the use of computers in the community, and other
topics of interest.

CSMAEYC was formed to help early childhood professionals be informed about the
latest information about children and to help establish connections through the
field. CSMAEYC is open to those interested in working with children, who are
currently working with children, or are working towards their Early Childhood
degree. Our purpose is to provide members with up-to-date information in the
field of early care and education and to present them with the opportunity to
expand their knowledge for the classroom.
International Club
The International Club provides educational and
social opportunities to all students and community members from, or
interested in, different cultures. The club is open to both American and
International Students.
The club welcomes ideas for activities which promote increased awareness
of cultural diversity. It sponsors and participates in events that enrich
the college experience through friendships and support relationships.
Future Teacher's Club

An organization for CSM students planning to become
teachers. The purpose of this club is to provide information and to
stimulate thought about teacher training and the teaching profession.
Activities include meetings, special events, and information sharing. To

The Hawkeye
The Hawkeye
is the student newspaper organization of CSM. The Hawkeye is written,
edited, and produced by the students of CSM. The newspaper is financed by
the SGA , advertisements and free to everyone. Reporting skills workshops
are held throughout the year. Staff membership is open to all students of
CSM. No experience is necessary; interested students will be helped by the
editors or advisor on their assignments. Any student interested in
contributing to the Hawkeye may do so by contacting the Hawkeye.
Contributions from students, faculty, or staff in the form of letters,
articles, reviews, or photographs are encouraged. The opinions
expressed are those of the individual writers and not necessarily of
the college or Hawkeye editorial staff.
College of Southern Maryland Animation Club
The CSM
Animation Club encourages the appreciation and advancement of Japanese
animation, or anime, in the tri-county area. The meetings will be a source
for viewing both old and new anime as well as a place for discussion of
anime and Asian cinema in general.
Nursing Student Association
The
Nursing Student Association at the College of Southern Maryland is a
pre-professional organization. The purpose of the organization is to act
as a cohesive group that responsibly contributes to the standards of
nursing education and nursing practice. Membership is open to all nursing
students and individuals interested in the issues and concerns facing
nursing today.
Phi Beta Lambda - Alpha Pi Chapter
Phi Beta Lambda’s Alpha Pi Chapter was the first fraternity
established at CSM. PBL is a nonprofit educational organization with more
than 10,000 chartered chapters in the United States. While PBL is an
academic business fraternity, membership is open to all students at CSM.
Members have the following privileges:

Phi Theta Kappa
Phi
Theta Kappa (PTK) is an international honor society for two-year college
students. It is made up of 1.2 million members on 1,200 campuses around
the world. Many four-year institutions offer transfer scholarships
specifically for PTK members. Active participation in the organization is
encouraged but not required. PTK is a student-run organization. When
members are active, the college’s Beta Delta Delta chapter provides
opportunities for leadership and sponsors activities related to
scholarship and service. Membership is by letter of invitation only.
Following the publication of a dean’s List, membership is offered to all
those appearing on that dean’s list who are still currently enrolled at
the college. The dean’s list (and therefore PTK membership) is based on a
combination of the cumulative grade point average (GPA) and the attainment
of certain total credit thresholds: a 3.5 cumulative GPA at 15, 30, 45, or
60 credits. Many activities are open to all students.
Spirit Club
The
Spirit Club at the College of Southern Maryland is comprised of students
who wish to support CSM athletics. The Spirit Club seeks to promote
attendance at athletic events and to promote interest in the athletic
program. The college mascot, The Hawk, is the responsibility of the Spirit
Club, and members select a student to serve as the mascot for college
events. Spirit Club activities include trips to away games, fundraisers,
and support rallies for the athletic teams.
Student Activities Committee (SAC)
Each
campus has a Student Activities Committee which is a special branch of the
Student Government Association. Each committee is chaired by the SGA’s
vice president on each campus, and its goal is to program educational,
entertaining, family-oriented activities for the student body. Some of
the programs the committees have been responsible for are: Learning Lunch
series, evening coffee breaks, noontime entertainment series, evening
entertainment, hot dog breaks, spring and fall picnics, Spring Fling
activities, Homecoming, tournaments, contests, holiday family parties,
special events, and other SGA related activities. Committee membership is
open to all students of CSM. No experience is necessary. Any student
interested in becoming a member of this committee or interested in helping
at the SAC events may either contact the Student Leadership office or the
Student Life Office.
¡Saludos!
The goal of ¡Saludos! is to promote a better understanding
of, and appreciation for, the Hispanic language and cluture. In an effort
to obtain this goal, ¡Saludos! involves itself in various
activities. Membership is open to any persons interested in the Spanish
language and culture.
Campus Crusade for Christ
The
Campus Crusade for Christ allows students of all denominations (and
nondenominational) to meet for Christian fellowship. The organization
provides students a wide spectrum of activities including (but not
exclusive to) participation in learning lunches and Christian outreach
programs on campus and in the community. Students also meet to discuss
seriously, yet informally, the Bible - its importance and relevance
in today’s society as well as providing information to students
on their religious rights.
Theatre Club
The
Theatre Club allows students to broaden their understanding and
appreciation of the arts in general and the theater in particular. Club
members participate in a variety of dramatic-related activities such
as theater workshops, one-act play festivals, and the production of
plays at the Fine Arts Center. Membership is open primarily
to CSM students. Non-students may be invited to participate on an
individual basis.
Theatritext
Theatritext,
founded in 1996, is the theater company at the Leonardtown Campus. The
company mounts two productions each year in the 185-seat auditorium.
Students interested in all aspects of theatrical production, including
acting, direction, scene and costume design, lighting, and management,
are welcome. (To pronounce it, say "theatrical." Now replace
the "cal" with
"text." Theatritext!)
Women on Campus
The purpose of Women on Campus is to make the College of Southern Maryland
campuses more sensitive to the needs, expectations, and goals of its
returning women students. Women on Campus tries to accomplish this
by representing the views of women students to the college administration
and the student government, by sponsoring a variety of programs and
activities designed to meet the special needs and interests of women
students, and by providing opportunities for women students to enrich
their college experience through the expansion of friendships and
the exchange of ideas.

CSM’s Women in Technology program has been designed to help potential
and current female students explore computer, electronics, and engineering
related careers as they relate to the educational programs offered at CSM.
The WIT program also seeks to help woman enrolled in any computer, electronics,
engineering, or math class to succeed.
Formation of Clubs and
Organizations
All clubs and organizations on the CSM campus must be registered through
the Student Life Department and chartered by the Student Government
Association.
Organizations must register annually in order to maintain their status
as a CSM registered organization. Complete information regarding
the formation of clubs and organizations can be obtained from the Student
Life Department.
Financing of Student Organizations
Each spring, the SGA begins to accept budget request from all registered
clubs and organizations. The SGA financial committee then sets
a budget for the next year based on estimated funds. See the Student
