Placement in Rank Information

All permanent faculty members are eligible for rank. Academic Deans determine initial placement in rank, maintenance of rank, and promotion through the ranks based upon the successful fulfillment of all requirements as listed below.

All faculty members are initially assigned to a rank based on their education, professional (non-classroom) experience, and/or teaching experience. It is only at initial placement that prior experience is considered. To quantify this experience, a table of equivalencies is used. (Teaching Experience Equivalency Table)

Faculty members enter rank at the initial salary scale unless prior to their hire here they have accumulated one or more equivalencies than are required by the rank. For each full equivalency which is documented, the faculty member will be
awarded one additional step on the salary scale beyond the equivalencies required by rank. Faculty will have the opportunity
for placement up to midpoint of the appropriate rank. No fractions of equivalencies will be counted at any time, nor will any
prior education, non-classroom professional experience and/or teaching experience be counted at any time after initial
placement.
