POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR: Coordinator, Aquatics and Community Services
1. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Prioritize tasks and responsibilities and summarize them below.
The Coordinator for Aquatics and Community Service establishes safety standards for all users of the college pool. Plans, implements and evaluates: 1) aquatics activities; including college courses, the U.S. Swim program, pool membership program, Charles County Public School Water Safety Program, seniors aquatic program; and 2) sports-related community services including the summer youth program, summer sports camps and indoor soccer program.
Specific duties include:
1. General Responsibilities: (30%)
a. Serves as continuing education course manager for aquatics, community services and summer camps.
b. Proposes an annual budget for each activity to the Director of Wellness, Fitness and Recreation (WFR), including revenue and FTE projections.
c. Recommends expenditures to WFR Director and monitors monthly cost center reports as assigned.
d. Develops an evaluation plan for each activity, submits monthly and annual written reports to WFR Director on status of activities and recommendations for programs.
e. Contributes to departmental and college wide planning process.
f. Recommends equipment & supply needs to WFR Director
g. Works in conjunction with MAR/CMN to develop promotional materials and coordinates their distribution.
h. Serves as back-up staff when coverage is needed.
i. Assists with other duties as assigned.
2. Aquatics: (40%)
a. Administers all college activities scheduled in college pool: (Administration includes hiring, training, supervising, evaluating all faculty/staff; evaluating and improving activities.)
i. College courses (coordinates credit and continuing education courses with the WFR Director;
ii. US Swim Program;
iii. Pool membership program;
iv. Fifth Grade Water Safety Program and Flex Program (coordinate with Charles County Public Schools;
v. Seniors aquatic programs
b. Schedules all pool activities and approves the scheduling of non-college pool activities.
c. Establishes safety standards and procedures for the pool and ensure these are followed by all college and non-college users.
d. Develops con ed course schedules and submits to WFR Director according to established procedures.
e. Facilitates registration foe the US Swim Program,
f. Contact person for the local Red Cross chapter to ensure that the proper certification records are maintained by the chapter for the college swimming and life saving courses.
g. Administers credit-by-exam for WFS 1100
h. Establishes guidelines for pool maintenance and cleaning with the Facilities Department; regularly evaluate effectiveness.
3. Community Services (30%)
a. Administers sports-related/con ed services including: (administration includes hiring, training, supervising, evaluating staff, managing within annual budgets; scheduling, evaluating and improving activities; solving problems as they arise)
i. Summer Youth Program
ii. Summer Sports Camps
iii. Indoor Soccer Program (maintains league standings and sends to local papers; serves as final arbitrator for league protests).
2. Education/Knowledge Required: Specify required degrees, experience, special skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance.
ECUCATION: Bachelors degree required
Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
American Red Cross Life guarding Certification required
CPR certification required
EXPERIENCE: 3 years aquatic experiences
3 years administration/supervision (experience preferably in aquatics or
Recreational setting)
3. Supervision: List all position titles reporting directly to this position, full-time or

4. Guidelines/Procedures/Regulations: Identify guidelines, procedures, instructions, regulations, pool operator requirements. Be specific.

6. Fiscal Responsibility: Describe the fiscal responsibility. Include total dollars that the position

aquatics program, indoor soccer leagues and summer youth/sports camps
2. Submits requisition forms for purchase of equipment, materials & supplies.
3. Manages timesheets for Aquatic Assistants and temporary staff.
4. Develops and submits for US Swim team and soccer officials
