Twilight Performance Series 2010

   

The College of Southern Maryland will once again offer a free, outdoor performance series at all three campuses during July 2010.  The CSM Twilight Performance Series consists of four weeks of  performances, concerts, and more at all three CSM campus locations, including the ever-popular Chautauqua program during the Kick-Off Week of the Series!

Bring the whole family and enjoy a variety of entertainment for free. Plan on dinner on the lawn as we serve up a variety of sandwiches and grilled items for purchase. All you need to bring is a lawn chair -- and if you are in the mood -- maybe your dancing shoes!

 

 

General Information:

Performances start at 6:45 p.m., rain or shine (indoor facilities are available at each campus)

• All events are free and open to the public

• Entertainers are subject to change without notice

Food and refreshments are available for purchase

 

Dates of Events by Campus:

  • Leonardtown Campus on Tuesdays (July 6, 13, 20 and 27)
  • La Plata Campus on Wednesdays (July 7, 14, 21, and 28)
  • Prince Frederick Campus on Thursdays (July 8, 15, 22, and 29)

 

Chautauqua (July 6-8, 2010)

Chautauqua is an educational, entertainment experience of the Maryland Humanities Council, Inc presented in partnership with CSM. The nightly activities include musical acts at 6:45 p.m., followed by theatrical performances at 7 p.m. by Chautauquan actors who portray historical figures. Step back in time as the performers adopt the mannerisms, accents, and costumes of their characters. Audience members will even have an opportunity to ask questions of our distinguished historical guests!

With influences spanning bluegrass and country to jazz, classical, international folk and classic rock, the Fitzmaurice Band has developed a sound truly its own. The band’s magic is rooted in the fact that they are not just band mates, but also the best of friends which can clearly be seen on stage. From the CSM lawn, experience how this band’s love for music comes across with perfect clarity.

Terence McArdle and Big Trouble delights swing dancers, roots music fans, and blues lovers alike with a combination of swinging guitar, rough hewn vocalizing, swinging shuffl e grooves, and pulsing horns. Big Trouble sounds both retro and modern—fun but still bluesy and deep. Put on your dancing shoes for an evening of big fun.

A gypsy jazz trio with Latin influences, Alegria brings an engaging mix of Brazilian, Cuban, Caribbean, Spanish Flamenco, and American jazz standards to the Twilight Series. The Alegria trio consists of guitarist Peter Richardson who peppers his solos with surprise flourishes from Classical, Flamenco, and Gypsy Swing music, bass player Bob Bowen who brings the bass line unusually to the fore with vibrant styling, and drummer Drex Weaver who deftly employs brushes and subtle hand percussion for Alegria’s delicate ballads.
