How One Alum Got Involved!
A fan of U.S. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan long before the poet's visit to the La Plata Campus, CSM alumnus Jennifer Polhemus drove four hours from Carlisle, PA with one purpose, to hear the poet. Receiving her degree in general studies as a member of one of the last classes graduating from then-Charles County Community College (CCCC), Polhemus is passionate about poetry and has composed poems based on Ryan's writing style.
''When I heard Kay Ryan was coming to CSM, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to come hear her,'' said Polhemus, who as a donor to the CSM Foundation received an invitation to Ryan's reception. Her reason for being a donor is simple: ''They gave so much to me at a time in my life when I truly needed it. I am happy for the chance to give back.''
Polhemus is participating in the $40 for 4 Club which encourages donors to pledge $40 for four months in honor of the CSM Foundation's 40th Anniversary. In designating her gift to support the General Scholarship Fund she feels her donation will reach more students. To learn more about the $40 for 4 Club contact the Development Office.
