Since Mary Hunt has been coordinating the Early Childhood Development program at CSM, she’s had an impact on many children’s lives. In 20 years, Hunt said she feels she has been able to impact “more children and families than when I taught” Pre-K through third grade.
That’s because Hunt teaches many students who are currently in the field or who will soon enter the field. “I’ve had students who have gone on and have become active in our national organizations” and who have become local leaders in the childcare field, she said.
Anyone who wants to work with infants, toddlers, or young children can find the required courses at CSM, said Hunt. “Students should choose our program because all of our instructors have experience in the field,” she said.
Also, after students have spent many hours learning the theories and best practices necessary for early childhood educators, they have the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice with supervision through a co-op experience.
