Transfer Success Stories

Sherita Jones, 21. How did I realize my potential?

Sherita Jones

Grew up in Prince Georges County

High School: Westlake High School

CSM Associate’s Degree: General Studies

Transferred to CSM : “…after attending Morgan State for a semester. I was struggling at Morgan State. There are so many things that can distract you and you think you can handle it, but without good time management, a strong focus and a great level of responsibility, students are likely fall in with the wrong crowds or make bad decisions.”

Academically : “I found ways to manage my time and my duties, and I have become more self-reliant and responsible thanks to the assistance of the advisors here at CSM.”

Personally: “I learned that pride should be left outside of the classroom because students are there to learn and ask questions. CSM helped me to prepare myself for the transferring process. Now I’m a transfer student at Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD and I’m very determined to accomplish my goals.”

CSM’s Instructors: “…are understanding, yet strict to an extent. Many of them are willing to see students outside of class and they encourage you talk to them if you need any special accommodations. Professors aren’t your friends; they are your teachers. Some students need to understand that the teachers are preparing you for the real world and we can’t depend on everyone to be so lenient, otherwise, it wouldn’t be reality.

Advice for Other Students: “Stay focused. Ask for help when you need it and develop a relationship with your advisors and professors. Open your mind to new ideas; you can’t grow without allowing new opportunities to come into your life.”
