Learning Lab

La Plata Campus, Learning Resource Center (LR Building), Room 118.

The Learning Lab supports the reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills development needs of students.

Learning Lab Student Resources Include:

  • Models for anatomy, chemistry, biology, and nursing
  • Microscopes and slides for anatomy and microbiology
  • Books on reserve
  • More than 50 software tutorials for reading, writing, math, biology, microbiology, anatomy, nursing, and more
  • Tutoring during spring, summer, and fall semesters
  • Assistance with online class navigation and tools

These classes were designed to assist you to develop the skills to make decisions so that you are not only a successful college student, but a successful employee in your future career.

Group Tutoring The Student Success Center provides free group tutoring at all of our campuses. If you need help with a specific class, drop by to see a tutor.

A tutor can help you:

  • Understand lectures and reading material
  • Prepare for tests
  • Develop a learning style
Tutoring Tutoring is offered in a wide range of subjects including English, mathematics, and biology. You should bring any needed materials and be ready to discuss any problems or questions during your tutoring session. Tutoring schedules are available online here.

Online Tutoring CSM also offers online tutoring services for those who prefer the convenience or require the flexibility of working from home. SmarThinking and ThinkingStorm offer academic support in mathematics, writing, English as a second language, accounting, economics, chemistry, and many other subjects. CSM students can use both SmarThinking and ThinkingStorm free of charge for up to 10 hours each semester.

Disability Support Services

CSM's Disability Support Services office, part of the CSM Student Success Center, is dedicated to helping eliminate the physical, academic, technical, and attitudinal barriers to help students with disabilities reach their academic and career goals.

We can provide the following assistance:

  • Voice recognition software - Dragon Naturally Speaking

 Testing Center

The CSM Testing Centers located on each campus provide many testing services.

  • Placement Tests (ACCUPLACER)
  • Credit by Examination (CLEP, DSST, and departmental exams)
  • Make-Up and Online Course Tests
  • National Standardized Tests and Certification Testing (SAT, ACT, LSAT, PRAXIS, Pearson Vue, and MOS)
  • Special Accommodations Testing

Tips for Testing Center:

  • Bring a current photo ID
  • Do not bring cell phones or other electronic devices
  • Know your instructor's name, course number and title
