Student Resources to Help You Succeed

Beyond tutoringtesting, access to the Learning Lab and self-help materials, the Kick Off to College, the Student Success Center offers diagnostic testing, workshops, and College Success Skills courses to help you set and reach your academic goals.

 

College Success Skills Courses

STU-1010 (3) - Thorough orientation to college, students increase their chances for success in college by obtaining skills necessary to reach their educational objectives. Topics include: introduction to college policies, procedures and regulations, use of college resources, information gathering, decision-making skills, goal setting, self- management, time planning, assessment of learning styles, communication skills, study techniques, and test-taking strategies.

STU1012 (3) - Preparatory Skills for Nursing: Prospective students interested in a nursing career will have the opportunity to obtain skills needed to achieve their educational goals.

STU1030 (1) - Study Skills Lab: Improve your study skills and develop an active approach to your education by understanding and adapting to various teaching styles and coursework.

STU1050 (3) - Career Decision Making and Life Planning: Explore career options and learn decision-making, goal-setting and planning skills to help you set and reach your career goals.

STU1070 - Approaching Math Positively: Designed for students who delay taking math courses or who have anxiety in math courses.

STU1080 - Boosting Your Learning Potential: Designed to enhance your success in academic learning and achievement.

STU1090 (1) - Transfer Preparation: Learn the information, resources, and tools necessary to select a degree/major and successful transitions from CSM to a four-year college or university.

STU1201 (1) - Portfolio Assessment Orientation: This orientation takes the you through the requirements and processes of portfolio development and provides an in-depth description of what goes into a portfolio to earn credit for prior learning. 

 

Diagnostics Testing

The Student Success Center has in-person tests available for student use to help them prepare for placement testing. The tests are administered in the Testing Centers. Score reports allow students to learn more about their strengths and weaknesses in English, reading, and math.

  • There is no fee for taking these tests or viewing the score report.
  • The tests can be taken more than once.

Educational Software

McCann

McCann is a web-based, tutorial tool, which assesses student skill levels using diagnostic tests and delivers individualized Learning Pathways to enhance the learning process.

Plato

Plato is also a web-based learning system. Request this tool if you require a more comprehensive review, are looking to test out of advanced mathematics courses, or use assistive technology.

Go to https://ple.platoweb.com/Account/Sign. Enter cosm as Account Login, the provided Plato Name and Password and click Login.
