Certification Testing

GED Testing and Professional Certification Testing

The College of Southern Maryland is a test site for GED Testing for the State of Maryland and various professional certifications. 

Leonardtown Testing Center is now a certified Pearson Vue test site!

GED Testing and Pearson Vue Professional Certification Testing are available at:

  • La Plata campus:  Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-4, and on Fridays from 9-4.
  • Leonardtown campus: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-5.
  • Prince Frederick campus: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-4.

GED Testing

The GED Test is a four-part exam which measures proficiency in science, mathematics, social studies, and language arts.  The test is administered via computer through Pearson Vue and is available at all campuses of the College of Southern Maryland.   Currently, the State of Maryland is offering a discount rate of $11.25 per test module. Upon successful completion of the GED test, you will be awarded a Maryland High School Diploma by the State Board of Education.  Click here to schedule your GED.

GED testers looking for test preparation can find it in a number of places. 

  • GED Preparation at the College of Southern Maryland

    • AAA-6340 (GED Preparation) and AAA-6350 (Prepare for the GED Math Test) are on-line courses which will help individuals prepare for the GED test.  There is a course fee.  These non-credit courses are offered through CSM's Community Education program and Ed2go.  Click here for more information.

  • The GED Marketplace provides GED Ready, the official practice test as well as study materials for purchase.  It also provides some free practice materials.
  • The Lifelong Learning Center in Charles County offers GED prep classes.  Call 301-753-1774 for more information.
  • The Adult Education program in Calvert County offers GED prep classes.  Call 410-535-7382 for more information.
  • The Adult Education program in St. Mary's county offers GED prep classes.  Call 301-475-0242, Ext. 28132.

Pearson Vue - Professional Certification Testing

Pearson Vue provides certification exams for numerous vendors.  Many certifications in IT fields including CompTIA Security +, CompTIA A+, and CompTIA Network +, CISCO, Certified Ethical Hacker, Oracle Certification, GIAC, VMWare, and ITIL-F are available at CSM test sites.

For more information on professional certification exams offered at CSM locations and to schedule a test, visit the Pearson Vue website at http://www.vue.com/.  Some exams are only available through Pearson Professional Centers.

  • The College of Southern Maryland offers classes leading up to IT certification and IT certification preparation courses.  Click here for more information.

  • The Emergency Medical Services program here at the College of Southern Maryland prepares graduates to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (NREMT-P) exams available through Pearson Vue.  For more information about the program click here.

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)

Certification for Microsoft Office 2010 is available through Certiport.  For more information and to pay for your exam online, click here to go to the Certiport website.  Contact the La Plata Testing Center at (301) 934-7657 to schedule an appointment.  Certiport exams are given on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is a $25 proctor fee which can be paid at the Bursar's Office on the day of the exam.
  • The College of Southern Maryland offers beginner and intermediate classes in Microsoft Office Suite which can lead to MOS certification or an Entry-Level Administrative Assistant Certification through the college.  Click here for more information.

ACE Fitness Certification

Ace Fitness Certification exams are delivered by Castle WorldWide.  These exams are given on Tuesday and Thursdays at the La Plata campus. For more information on ACE fitness certifications, including exam registration, go to http://www.acefitness.org/.
  • The College of Southern Maryland offers courses leading up to certification as an ACE Personal Trainer and ACE Group Fitness Instructor.  Click here for more information.

EMPCO

EMPCO has partnered with the Maryland Sheriff's Association to provide pre-employment testing for Deputy Sheriffs and Jail/Corrections officers.  This testing program is available at all CSM Testing Centers.  Selected test dates are posted through the EMPCO website.  For more information click here for the EMPCO website or go to the Maryland Sheriffs' Association site by clicking here.
