Welcome to Disability Support Services!

Disability Support Services (DSS) is dedicated to providing access to campus resources to students with disabilities.  DSS aims to help eliminate physical, academic, technical, and attitudinal barriers to help students reach their academic and career goals.  The department is committed to providing academic accommodations and operating all campus programs in accordance with Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).

The Role of Disability Support Services

  • Provide reasonable accommodations to qualified students based on the student’s documented disabilities
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of student records as required by law
  • Assist the entire College community to understand the ADA and the enhancement to diversity that students with disabilities provide
  • Provide training for and use of assistive technology
Act as a liaison to external agencies, such as Division of Rehabilitative Services (DORS) and local schools

Assistive Technology

CSM is committed to providing up-to-date assistive technology for its students.  Our various programs include:

  • Specialized keyboards including on-screen keyboards
  • Screen reading software - JAWS
  • Voice recognition software - Dragon Naturally Speaking
  • Screen enlargement software - ZoomText
  • Scan and read software - Kurzweil
  • Scanners
  • Optelec and Flipper Port
