Joseph F. Shannon, Jr.
Joseph F. Shannon, Jr. was appointed to the CSM board of Trustees in 1997 by Governor Parris Glendening. He served as vice-chair from 2002-2003 and chair from 2003-2007. He is the Director, Customer Advocate Office at NSWC Indian Head. He has served 22 years in government and 17 years in the private sector. He was the Chief Operating Officer at AOT (Applied Ordnance Technology) a government contractor supporting the DOD technology base in engineering and science, information technology, environmental sciences, logistics and acquisition and was Vice President for Marketing at Bolton & Associates a civil engineering, land planning and surveying firm.
He was President of the Charles County Chamber of Commerce in 1999 and chaired the joint EDC Chamber Transportation Committee from 1995 to 1998. He served four years as a Board Member of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. A founding member of the Naval Energetics Technology Alliance, Shannon has also served as president of the Indian Head chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association. He was on the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland Regional Strategy Committee, 1997-98.
Shannon received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Attended the Naval War College off-campus graduate program.
