President's Message

Welcome to the College of Southern Maryland . . .

Congratulations on your decision to attend the College of Southern Maryland (CSM), where you are an active part of your learning experience. Whatever your goals are, CSM can help you realize your potential. As a newcomer to CSM, I am impressed by the college’s outstanding educational programs and services. You are attending a college where all employees care about student success.

If your goal is to transfer to a bachelor’s program, you are not alone. The number one reason students choose CSM is to transfer to another college or university after saving thousands of dollars. CSM is half the tuition of a bachelor’s degree granting college. And, when you are ready to transfer, you can earn your bachelor’s degree close to home through one of CSM’s local partnership programs with University of Maryland University College, Towson University, Bowie State University, University of Baltimore, Capitol College, Villa Julie or St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

As a growing community college with more than 21,000 enrollments, CSM is looking toward the future with expanded offerings in engineering, science, math, and more. This past year, CSM partnered with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University to bring yet another transfer opportunity to the students of Southern Maryland to support the workforce needs of our local naval installations.

You can choose from more than 120 programs of study and a growing number of online programs. If your goal is to develop a specialized skill for a job, the college offers a variety of short-term training opportunities to put you on a career path quickly. Increased offerings in the trades, transportation, and construction fields allow students to develop their skills and enter a high-demand workforce.

The college is also enhancing its cultural arts programs on all campuses. One example is the master concert series on the Prince Frederick Campus. This year, the study abroad program features travel studies courses to destinations like China, Russia, and Mongolia, Belize, England, France, and other countries. At CSM, your education opportunities truly offer a global perspective.

Online student services continue to expand for your convenience. Through the CSM web site at www.csmd.edu, you can view your schedule, register, add/drop classes, check your financial assistance status, pay your bill, check your grades, and much more.
