Self-Paced Courses

Work at your own pace to complete coursework!

Self-paced courses are guided by an instructor and a student learning packet. Each student receives course information and a timeline for completing exercises. The instructor grades the work and provides one-on-one help as needed during open lab hours. Students must come to an orientation meeting to receive their learning packets, meet their instructors, and receive any necessary computer files to complete the course. Orientations are held the first Wednesday of each month (except August and December) at the La Plata Campus in room LR-205 at 10 a.m., noon, and 6:30 p.m. The orientations usually take about 30 minutes.

Most courses can be taken for either one college credit or for 1.5 continuing education units. The one-credit courses have a 30-day timeline, while two-credit courses have 60 days, and three-credit courses have 90 days. Each student can finish the required work at his or her own pace throughout those assigned days as long as everything assigned is turned in by the final due date. No points are taken away from students who do not turn in weekly assignments, but also, no assignments will be accepted after the final due date has passed.

** All students must attend the first day of class which includes an orientation and a chance to meet the faculty advisors.
