From Geometry to Art: Tessellations

Description:

Excite the artist and mathematician in you! Explore a special class of geometirc repeating patterns called tesselllations. Using basic geometric shapes and the notion of symmetry, learn to recognize and create tesselating patterns. Discover the history of Moorish artists and the works of M.C. Escher. Learn about the geographic and historical connections of tessellations along with their present day applications in fields such as biology. Use various techniques to generate your own creative tessellations using graph paper, creating templates, and using computer programs such as Microsoft Paint and Geometer's Sketchpad.
