Description:
This American Red Cross course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to selected medical emergencies and provide basic life support until more advanced measures can be initiated. Topics include the emergency medical service (EMS) system; the rescuer role; cardiovascular disease risk factors; cardic and respiratory emergencies in adults, children, and infants; shock; soft tissue and musculosketal injuries; poisoning; thermal injuries; and basic evacuation techniques. Successful completion requires that students meet American Red Cross standards for Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer.
