Course Description

Healthcare Diversity in Charles County

Course: HTH-7040
Continuing Education Units: 0.40

Description:

The population of Southern Maryland is increasing in size and diversity. Many have culturally based belief systems that prevent them from seeking treatment, or that influence their expectations regarding treatment. The reasons could be language barriers, modesty, religion, unwillingness to admit weakness, lack of knowledge regarding disease/treatment, just to name a few. Awareness promotes and ensures fair and just treatment regardless of race, religion, gender, or culture. We need to ensure a community that acknowledges, respects, and responds to diversity. We have a choice and a responsibility to make a difference. Come learn how to recognize and accomodate the cultural differences.
