Cultural Diversity in Health Care
Course: NUR-8270
Continuing Education Units: 0.55
Description:
Course description and objectives as advertised and college comment: The population of Southern Maryland is increasing size and diversity. People we work with and take care of are no longer the people we grew up with. Many come from far away and bring with them customs and mannerisms that are different from out own. Come learn how the background and upbringing of the newcomers to Southern Maryland affects their behaviors as clients and as employees. Hispanic, African and Asian cultures will be explored in terms of the way they perform their jobs in local health care agencies and impact their needs as clients when they come in for care. Others grow generation Y populations in the work place and who come in for health care will be addressed. Sexual diversity as its impacts the workplace and the care management of clients and families with alternative life styles will also be discussed.
