Teaching Tips for High School Geometry

Description:

This course is designed to introduce high school teachers to alternative modes of instruction in presenting topics/indicators as measured in the State's high school assessment for geometry. The course focuses on using hands-on, activity-centered objectives by using software (Sketchpad), the Internet in finding appropriate websites that are student centered (virtual manipulatives), and classroom manipulatives (Geoboard, etc.). Course objectives are centered on four indicators: Triangles and their relationships, Quadrilaterals and their characteristics, Area and Perimeter of polygons, and Transformations (reflections, symmetry and dilations). This one credit Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course has been approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.
