Taking Classes under MTAP

Create a plan

In order to maximize benefits of the program, students should meet with an academic advisor to create a course plan. Students who take courses with a plan in mind save time and money. To create a plan, students should understand the MTAP requirements, choose a major, and be aware of transfer credit evaluations.

Choosing a major

It is okay not to have a major in mind, but start thinking about possibilities. Declaring a major early will help to save time and money.

Transferring credits

Understanding how credits are transferred between institutions will help to make the transition smoother.

Taking classes at UMCP while an MTAP student

MTAP students that have completed 15 credits at CSM may enroll in one UMCP course per semester (not to exceed a total of 9 credits over the duration of the program) before completing MTAP. MTAP students will receive a 25% course-tuition scholarship on UMCP courses. Normal fees will apply and will provide access to all student services at UMCP, including:

• UMCP Student ID
• UMCP library system
• UMCP athletic events
• Shuttle Bus System
• Campus Recreation Center
• Stamp Student Union
• Reduced ticket prices for events at the Clarice Smith Center
• University Health Center

Information on UMCP tuition and fees:

• UMCP tuition, fees, billing and finances
• Regular cost for UMCP courses (MTAP students receive a 25% course-tuition scholarship not calculated here)
• UMCP tuition due dates (payment for tuition is not required at course registration)
• Fees associated with part time UMCP enrollment (fees paid as MTAP students)

Steps to register for a class at UMCP as an MTAP student:

1. Meet with a CSM advisor.
2. Determine the most appropriate course to take at UMCP (see the UMCP Schedule of Classes).
3. Refer to UMCP Four Year Plans, Major requirements, and transfer equivalencies.
4. Complete a Course Interest Survey and submit it to a CSM advisor.
5. Receive notification of approval from UMCP.
6. Receive a 25% course-tuition scholarship.
