The college offers
traditional and alternative course delivery options to meet the demands
of a diverse student population. Dual/Concurrent admission students are
advised to consult with the college enrollment advisor to choose the
option that best fits their needs. Options that are available include:
v
Traditional
classroom delivery
– Classes offered on a semester basis and focuses on faculty and student
interaction in the classroom.
v
Telecourse
– A
telecourse is an integrated college-level learning experience consisting
of videotapes, textbook readings, study guides, and an instructor.
Students view telecourses via professionally produced videotaped
lessons. Complete telecourse videotape sets are borrowed from the
college library for the entire semester. All telecourse videotape sets
are available from the college library. Some telecourses are aired on
Maryland Public Television (MPT).
v
Web-based course
– A
course that is designed to bring campus-based classes to students'
computers. The instructor provides information posted on a course Web
site that guides the student through course content, prompts
discussions, and helps students keep pace with assignments. Due dates
for assignments, a logical learning pattern, and start/end dates that
correspond with a semester create a classroom that is available at a
convenient time and place. Students may be required to take proctored
exams or assessments
v
Web-enhanced course
– A
course that meets completely on-campus; however, instruction is
supplemented via World Wide Web (Internet). Some telecourses may also be
web-enhanced.
v
Web-hybrid course
– A
course that combines partial on-campus instruction with web-based
instruction. The word hybrid will appear in the title of the course.
v
Mini sessions
– courses in short, seven week sessions
v
January
Intersession
– courses offered between the fall and spring semesters in a compressed
format
v
Self-paced course
– A
computer-based course that allows students to work at their own pace
under the guidance of a faculty advisor. These courses offer students
self-paced learning and attendance flexibility. All students must attend
the first day of class on the La Plata Campus.
