Academic Excellence Scholarship

To recognize high achieving students who have demonstrated outstanding ability, achievement, and potential, the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) offers an Academic Excellence Scholarship program for qualified graduates of area high schools. One recipient from each of the Charles County and St. Mary’s County public high schools may be awarded the Academic Excellence Scholarship. This $2,000 award provides $500 per semester for four consecutive semesters at CSM. Recipients must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative CSM GPA, enroll in 12 or more credit hours each semester, and meet with a CSM Academic Advisor each semester to ensure the student remains on track to graduate in two years. This scholarship is only available for the fall and spring semesters.

Who may apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  1. Be a resident of Charles County or St. Mary’s County
  2. Be a graduating senior in a public school in Charles County or St. Mary’s County
  3. Have an unweighted high school GPA of 3.5 or better
  4. Complete CSM’s online admissions application
  5. File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www.FAFSA.gov). CSM’s school code is 002064
  6. Demonstrate financial need
  7. Enroll as a full time student while attending CSM

  2. Official high school transcripts with SAT/ACT scores
  3. A one-page essay explaining how CSM can help you to achieve your academic and career goals

For priority consideration, applications must be received by Friday, April 7, 2017.

Guidelines for this scholarship

  • Prior to July 1, submit final high school transcript, showing final GPA and conferring of diploma
  • Enroll full-time (a minimum of 12 credit hours) at CSM
  • Submit a graduation plan and meet with a CSM Academic Advisor each semester to ensure the student remains on track to graduate from CSM
  • Select an Associate’s Degree program of study which is eligible for financial aid
  • Attend the Annual CSM Foundation Scholarship reception during the fall semester, and complete two volunteer hours in the Development Department
  • Submit a thank you note to the donor (CSM Foundation)

Renewing this scholarship

  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at CSM at the completion of each semester
  • Remain in compliance with CSM’s Satisfactory Academic Progress standards (financial aid)
  • Meet with a CSM advisor each semester to track degree completion progress and submit revised graduation plan (if applicable)
  • Attend the Annual CSM Foundation Scholarship reception during the fall semester, and complete two volunteer hours in the Development Department
  • Submit a thank you note to the donor (CSM Foundation)
  • This scholarship may be used for four consecutive semesters (Fall & Spring) as long as all criteria are met. The criteria are subject to change without notice.
