FORMER HAWK AMANDA BOSWELL COMPETES FOR USA IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION June 22, 2005 - Former College of Southern Maryland softball player Amanda Boswell recently returned from Aruba, where she competed for the USA against the Aruba Select team, as well as other local teams. The trip was sponsored by USA Athletes International, a non-profit organization that sponsor's competition in foreign countries for US athletes. The competition ran from June 4-11. Amanda Boswell played for the Hawks in 2002 and 2003, before transferring to Frostburg State, where she played her junior and senior years. Her Freshman year at CSM Boswell hit .405 with 14 RBI's and 30 runs scored. In 2003, as a sophomore she hit .359, with 8 RBI's and 36 runs scored. Players were selected from across the country, and Amanda enjoyed the opportunity to meet new players. "The USA team was made up of student athletes from all around the United States, with different backgrounds and many personalities. I have met some great people and I hope to keep touch with them in the future." The USA team went undefeated (6-0), and members of the Aruba Olympic Committee were impressed with the performance of the American athletes. Commenting on the overall experience, Amanda said "Going to Aruba was an awesome experience. I felt very privileged to represent the United States in the Aruba Olympic Goodwill games. I had so much fun touring the Island, learning a little history, and playing softball. I have never been out of the country before, so for me, traveling to Aruba was a different experience. I am so grateful for this opportunity to be able to play softball, and I want to thank everyone who supported me and helped me get there."
