2010 SPRING BANQUET

Award winners (L-R): Ron Mann, James Newsome, Ashley Wolfe, Nicole LaDue, Jerry Michael

May 14, 2010 - The College of Southern Maryland hosted their annual Spring Athletic Banquet on May 5, 2010 at the Jaycee Center in Waldorf, Md.  The annual banquet serves as an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of all of the athletes and coaches for the past academic year.

Several major awards were presented:

Male Athlete of the Year - James Newsome (Baseball)
As a member of the baseball team, James batted .350. with 16 doubles, 4 triples, 6 homeruns, and 60 RBI's.  He excelled in the classroom as well, and his GPA was second only to the Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Female Athlete of the Year - Ashley Wolfe (Volleyball)
Ashley excelled both on and off the court.  Her statistics on the volleyball court were impressive, as she was 6th in the conference in blocks, and 8th in the nation in hitting efficiency (44 %).  She was 1st Team All Conference, 1st Team All Region, and Honorable Mention All American.   Despite a torn ACL, she led the team to the Region Championship game.  Her GPA was 3.16, and she is listed in Who's Who Among College Students.

Wings of the Hawk - Ron Mann (Compliance Officer)
With the athletic department short staffed, Ron stepped up to help out, going well beyond his normal duties.  He volunteered to run the scoreboard at all home basketball games, as well as serve as Athletic Administrator at many home events, ensuring there would be an administrator at all games.

Scholar Athlete of the Year - Nicole Ladue (Women's soccer)
Nicole was a hard worker both on and off the field.  She played defensive midfield for the women's soccer team, and although her primary role was defense, she scored 4 goals (3 game winners), and had 2 assists.  Her GPA was an outstanding 3.757.

Hall of Fame - Jerry Michael - Baseball 1972-73
Jerry's pitching record over his two year career as a member of the CSM baseball team was 12-3.  He was Pitching MVP in 1972-73, and led the Hawks to two Region XX Championships.  He was Second Team All MDJUCO in both 1972 and 1973.
