FALL BASEBALL WORK-OUTS BEGIN SEPT. 8
August 25, 2010 -
Fall work-outs for baseball team will begin on Wednesday,
Sept. 8, 2010 beginning at 4:00 PM at Regency Furniture Stadium. Players
need to have all their paperwork completed (Consent form, eligibility form,
physical), before they will be allowed to practice.

CSM ATHLETES EARN ACADEMIC HONORS
August 3, 2010 -
Five CSM student
athletes have received MDJUCO Academic Awards. To qualify, the student
must have earned a GPA of 3.6. First year students need to have
completed 18 credits, while second year students need 42 credits.

CSM ATHLETES MOVE ON TO COMPETE AT FOUR
YEAR SCHOOLS
July 28, 2010 -
One of the goals of many athletes who come to the College
of Southern Maryland is to continue their playing career at a four year school.
This year nine former Hawks will move on to play at four year schools.
Ashley Wolfe, Gary Carr, Marco Gaudio, Rachael Shapelow, Kelsey Worrill, Kim
Leatherman, Megan Sturman, James Newsome, and JB Sapienza will all be continuing
their collegiate playing careers next season.

2010 SPRING BANQUET

The College of Southern Maryland hosted their annual
Spring Athletic Banquet on May 5, 2010 at the Jaycee Center in Waldorf, Md.
The annual banquet serves as an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments
of all of the athletes and coaches for the past academic year.
Several major awards were presented:
Male Athlete of the Year - James Newsome
(Baseball)
As a member of the baseball team, James batted .350. with 16 doubles, 4
triples, 6 homeruns, and 60 RBI's. He excelled in the classroom as
well, and his GPA was second only to the Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Female Athlete of the Year - Ashley Wolfe
(Volleyball)
Ashley excelled both on and off the court. Her statistics on the
volleyball court were impressive, as she was 6th in the conference in
blocks, and 8th in the nation in hitting efficiency (44 %). She was
1st Team All Conference, 1st Team All Region, and Honorable Mention All
American. Despite a torn ACL, she led the team to the Region
Championship game. Her GPA was 3.16, and she is listed in Who's Who
Among College Students.
Wings of the Hawk - Ron Mann (Compliance
Officer)
With the athletic department short staffed, Ron stepped up to help out,
going well beyond his normal duties. He volunteered to run the
scoreboard at all home basketball games, as well as serve as Athletic
Administrator at many home events, ensuring there would be an administrator
at all games.
Scholar Athlete of the Year - Nicole Ladue
(Women's soccer)
Nicole was a hard worker both on and off the
field. She played defensive midfield for the women's soccer team, and
although her primary role was defense, she scored 4 goals (3 game winners),
and had 2 assists. Her GPA was an outstanding 3.757.
Hall of Fame - Jerry Michael - Baseball
1972-73
Jerry's pitching record over his two year career as a member of the CSM
baseball team was 12-3. He was Pitching MVP in 1972-73, and led the
Hawks to two Region XX Championships. He was Second Team All MDJUCO in
both 1972 and 1973.
2008-09 Sportsmanship Award -
Award given annually by a vote of Athletic Directors to the school that
displays the most sportsmanship in hosting events.

HAWKS - BLUE CRABS GAME
May
12, 2010 - The CSM baseball team played their
annual exhibition game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on April 21.
It was a chance for the Hawks to test their skills against professionals, and
the Blue Crabs to play one last exhibition game before starting the regular
season. Despite the cool, cloudy weather, a good crowd was on hand, and a
good time was had by all.
