BUTCH HOBSON FEATURED SPEAKER AT CSM BASEBALL CLINIC


Butch Hobson speaks to high school players at CSM clnic

June 5, 2008 - The CSM Baseball Team sponsored a baseball clinic on May 31 for high school juniors and seniors.  The clinic featured hitting and fielding drills, as well as bullpen work for pitchers and catchers.  Butch Hobson, former player and manager for the Boston Red Sox and the current manager of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs was the featured speaker. May 27, 2008 - Ryan Neeley from Lackey High School has signed to play baseball at the College of Southern Maryland next season.  Ryan is one of the top pitchers in SMAC, who also plays the field and is a good hitter as well.

BASEBALL UPSETS ALLEGANY IN REGION XX TOURNAMENT

May 12, 2008 - The seventh seeded CSM baseball team upset fourth seeded Allegany with a 5-0 win in a game played on Saturday, May 10.  Justin Mika pitched a two-hit shutout and Mark Oxendine hit a homerun to advance the Hawks to the second round of the MDJUCO Tournament.

CSM is scheduled to play at Frederick on Tuesday, May 13 at 4:00 PM.

BASEBALL MAKES REGION XX PLAY-OFFS

May 6, 2008 - The CSM baseball team swept Essex on Saturday (5-1, 5-4) to secure the final spot in the Region XX play-offs.  The Hawks will be the seventh seed, and will travel to Allegany to face the fourth seeded Trojans.  That game will be played Saturday, May 10 at 10:00 AM.

The winner of the CSM - Allegany game will play at 4:00 PM Saturday, vs. the winner of # 5 Frederick vs. # 6 Dundalk.  All games are at Allegany.

HAGERSTOWN TAKES DOUBLEHEADER FROM HAWKS

April 30, 2008 - Hagerstown swept a doubleheader from the CSM baseball team, winning the first game 11-0, and taking the nightcap 7-1.  The second game was closer then the score indicated, as CSM outhit Hagerstown 7 to 4, but Hagerstown used the long ball to their advantage, as all seven runs scored on homeruns. HAWKS WIN FINAL HOME GAME

April 25, 2008 - The CSM baseball team rallied from behind to win their final home game of the season, 5-2, to earn a split of a doubleheader against Rockville.  The Knights won the first game 10-6.  The four CSM sophomores, Derrick Baker, Chris Williford, Justin Mika, and Guy Clarke were all on the field to savor the victory in their final game on the CSM diamond, and they all played a key role in the win. OPPORTUNISTIC SKIPJACKS DEFEAT HAWKS

April 24, 2008 - Chesapeake made the most of their opportunities, while the Hawks stranded four runners in the first two innings, as the Skipjacks defeated CSM 16-1 in baseball.

Warren Sollers and Mark Oxendine led the Hawk attack, both going 2-3.  Sollers had a double and single, and scored the Hawks only run, while Oxendine had two singles, and had CSM's only RBI of the day. (more)

BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST ROCKVILLE MOVED TO FRIDAY

April 21, 2008 - Due to the heavy rains the last two days, and the forecast for more showers tomorrow, the baseball doubleheader against Rockville scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed.  The doubleheader has been rescheduled for Friday, April 25 at 2:00 PM.

BASEBALL START TIME CHANGED FOR DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST FREDERICK

April 14, 2008 - The start time for the doubleheader against Frederick, on April 15, has been changed from 4:00 PM to 2:00 PM.  The games will now be played on the CSM campus, not at Laurel Springs Park.

HAWKS RALLY FALLS SHORT AS CECIL SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER

April 11, 2008 - The CSM baseball team rallied from behind, erasing a three run deficit twice to take the lead, but couldn't hold on and fell to Cecil 11-10 in the second game of a baseball doubleheader.  Cecil won the first game 4-2 to earn a sweep of the two games, played on a beautiful spring day with the temperature topping 80 degrees. BASEBALL GAME vs. CECIL MOVED TO FRIDAY

April 10, 2008 - With the potential for rain in the forecast for Saturday, the baseball doubleheader against Cecil has been moved to Friday, April 11.  First pitch will be at 1:00 PM.

2008 BASEBALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

February 5, 2008 - The CSM baseball team will open the season at home on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they host Southside in a 12:00 PM doubleheader. 

The team will play two nights game this season, April 22 against Rockville, and April 24 when the Hawks host Chesapeake.  Both games begin at 6:00 PM and will be played at Laurel Springs Park.  CSM will also play a doubleheader at Laurel Springs against Frederick on April 15, with the first pitch at 4:00 PM.

Other highlights include a trip to Ft. Myers, Florida for eight games in March, and two games at defending Region XX Champion Catonsville on April 5. (complete schedule)

BASEBALL HAS STRONG FALL SEASON

November 7, 2007 - With a turn out of over 20 players on the roster, the CSM baseball team had a strong fall season, going 10-3-2.  The pitching staff combined for a 4.10 ERA, while the offense averaged 7 runs per game.  The defense was strong, with the infield turning 11 double plays in 15 games.  The Hawks hope to build on their strong fall performance this spring.
