Joseph Saverino has
committed to continue his education and baseball career at Maryville
College in Maryville, Tenn.
The son of Belinda and Philip Saverino from Upper Marlboro, MD, Joseph
is a starting outfielder for the College of Southern Maryland. As a
freshman in 2008, Joseph batted .354 with 17 stolen bases and 11 RBIs.
He is currently hitting .310 and has already stolen 12 bases.
The head coach of the Scots, Daniel Washburn, had this to say about
Joseph's decision to continue his career at Maryville College: "Joseph
is a tremendous student-athlete and we are fortunate to have him joining
our program here at Maryville. He is a very athletic outfielder, impact
runner on the bases, and his experience as a lead-off hitter will be a
tremendous addition to our ballclub. The coaching staff expects Joseph
to make an immediate impact in our program, and he is a nice compliment
to an already solid group of outfielders. The coaching staff looks
forward to Joseph's arrival in the fall, and with his commitment we feel
as though we have solidified the outfield position."
Joseph will be
joining a Maryville team that currently sports a record of 15-14. Coach
Washburn is in his third season at the helm of the program and has
already led the Scots to one Great South Conference Championship.
Maryville continues Great South Conference play when they travel to
Piedmont on Thursday. First pitch of the three game series is scheduled
for 7:00 pm.
