GOLFER ROGER WELCH ADVANCES TO NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Wednesday, May 15 - Roger Welch was co-medalist in the Region XX Golf Championship, held on Tuesday, May 14 at Latrobe Elks Golf Course in Latrobe, Pa.

Rain canceled the first round scheduled for Monday, May 13, and Tuesday's round started with light rain and a wind chill in the 30's.  Welch shot a 74, which was excellent considering the conditions.  He tied with Steve Caron of Frederick, who also shot a 74.  Caron defeated Welch in the first hole of a sudden death play-off.  Welch still qualified for the National Tournament, and will compete in Phoenix May 21-24.

The rest of the CSM golfers struggled during the championship, and the Hawks finished 3rd overall.  C.J. Czosek shot an 88, Jason Turner 89, and Ryan Curry 90.
