Potomac State Wins 2008 Region XX
Golf Championship
May 7, 2008 -
Potomac State won the Region XX Golf
championship, played May 5 and 6 at Beaver Creek Country Club in Hagerstown,
Maryland.
All four Potomac
State players shot in the 70’s on the second day of the Tournament (for a 303
total), to break a tie with Harford Community College; as each team was tied
with 317 strokes after the first day’s competition. Harford slipped to a 342
total on the second day. The College of Southern Maryland was a distant third
with Hagerstown in fourth.

HARFORD GOLF TEAM DEFEATS CSM TO WIN MDJUCO
TITLE
April 28, 2008 -
The Harford golf team defeated CSM 322-369 to
finish an undefeated season and win back to back MDJUCO titles. The
Aberdeen Proving Grounds Ruggles Golf Course played at 7,111 yards, and the
Hawks were no match for the long hitting Owls. CSM falls to 4-2 on the
year.
Josh
Yodichkas led CSM with an 83, while the rest of the Hawks had their highest
rounds of the year. Freshman Tony Tiburzi was the medalist, shooting a 76
for Harford.
The
Region XX Championships will take place May 5th and 6th at Beaver Creek Country
Club in Hagerstown. The Hawks will compete against Harford and Potomac
State, who look to be the favorites.

GOLF DEFEATS ANNE ARUNDEL TO IMPROVE TO 3-1
April 15 -
The CSM golf team won their third match of the
season, defeating Anne Arundel 330-380 in a match played at Hawthorne Country
Club. Both teams had a difficult time, suffering a number of penalty
strokes from the numerous hazards and from hitting the ball out of bounds.
CSM's Greg Ottani was the medalist with a 78, as he had an outstanding round
with 12 pars and 6 bogeys.
CSM
will host Hagerstown in their final home match of the season, April 15, at
Hawthorne Country Club, beginning at 12:30 PM.
The
Hawks will travel to Aberdeen, Md. to face defending Region XX Champion Harford,
along with Potomac State, at Ruggles Golf Course on April 22.

ROCKVILLE EDGES GOLF TEAM FOR FIRST LOSS
April 10, 2008 -
On Tuesday, April 8 the CSM golf team hosted
Rockville at Twin Shields Golf Course in Calvert County. The Knights edged
CSM by two strokes, 324-322.
Sebastian Sarmiento was the medalist, with a 74 for Rockville. The Hawks
trio of Josh Yodichkas (76), Nick Cremonese (77), and Greg Ottani shot their
best rounds of the early season.
The
Hawks will host Anne Arundel (April 10) and Hagerstown (April 15) in their final
home matches for the 2008 season.

GOLF DEFEATS FREDERICK
April 10, 2008 -
The CSM golf team traveled to Frederick, Md. on
April 3, a cold, overcast day. The Glade Valley Golf course was in good
shape for this early in the year.
The
Hawks won by forfeit, as Frederick had only two eligible players, but the
Cougars expect to field a full team for future matches.
Frederick's Ian Cudahee was the medalist with a 79 on his home course.
Nick Cremonese and Andrew Nurmi both shot 85 for the Hawks.

GOLF TEAM WINS OPENING MATCH
April 2, 2008 -
The CSM golf team won their opening match with a
forfeit win over Garrett Community College, as the Lakers were unable to field a
full team to travel the four plus hours from Garrett County. Garrett plays
at the Wisp Golf Course, next to the ski resort, which will not open until
mid-April.
CSM's Josh Yodichkas was the medalist, with his best round of the year (78).
Garrettt Sterling shot an 83 on the tricky course at Hawthorne Country Club,
that boasts out-of-bounds and hazards on all 18 holes. Andrew Nurmi, Matt
Myers, Gret Ottani, and Mike Shelor round out the rest of the team.
The
Hawks travel to Frederick on Thursday, April 3 where they will take on the
Cougars at Glade Valley Golf Course at 12:00 PM.
