RHONE AND COUNTISS SIGNED

Wednesday, September 4 -  Southern Maryland College sophomore Chris Rhone has signed a national letter-of-intent to play college basketball at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

Rhone, a 6-1 guard, averaged 16.6 points, and shot 52% from the field last year in leading CSM to a 17-12 record.

"Chris comes from a solid program and has the ability to break opponents down with his dribble penetration.  If he works hard, Chris will have the opportunity to be a big factor for us this season" said Men's Basketball Coach Bob Battisti.

Former CSM player Marcel Countiss accepted an offer to play basketball at Davis and Elkins College.  Countiss, during the 1999-2000 season was the Hawks leading scorer and was a two-time All-Maryland JUCO player.

He took off two years from the game to get married and complete his obligations to the Coast Guard Reserve.  Countiss scored over 1,000 points, grabbed over 500 rebounds, and had over 300 steals during his CSM career.
