LAKERS WITHSTAND HAWKS FINAL CHARGE FOR 82-72 WIN Saturday, January 25- In a game of spurts, Garrett had the final one and held on to defeat CSM 82-72 before a crowd of over 200 in the Hawk's Nest. Garrett (12-6) got off to a fast start, jumping to a 10-4 lead, but the Hawks pressure defense forced several turnovers, and CSM (2-18, 1-11) cut the lead to 20-18 midway through the first half. The Lakers then went on 21-9 run to take a 41-27 lead into halftime. Garrett started off the second half just like the first half, and increased the lead to 52-29 three minutes into the second half. The Hawks proceeded to outscore the Lakers 15-0 to cut the lead to eight. J'Vaughn Hawkins scored five points in the run and Bryan Payne added four. Every time Garrett tried to pull away, the Hawks had an answer. Hawkins three pointer pulled CSM to within four at 74-70 with 1:55 left, but that was as close as they could get. Larry Blocker led the Lakers with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Antuon Townsend added 14 points. J'Vaughn Hawkins led all scorers with 22 points, and was 5 for 7 from three point range. Jacob Saffran added 11 points and 6 rebounds for the Hawks, and Bryan Payne pulled down 7 rebounds. CSM goes on the road for games Monday at Maryland Bible and Wednesday at Anne Arundel before returning home for Homecoming on Saturday, February 1 against Essex at 7:30 PM. |
