MEN AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALL TO PG

Friday, November 22 - Both the men's and women's basketball teams fell to Prince George's before a crowd of over 500 in a Friday night doubleheader.

Both squads started out slow in the women's game, with only 10 combined points scored between both teams mid-way through the first half.  Both teams were plagued by poor shooting and committed multiple turnovers.

The pace picked up mid-way through the first half, and PG surged to a 29-22 halftime lead.  Chmarmis DeLeary paced PG, while Jessica Smith made some big baskets inside to keep the Hawks in the game.

The Owls (1-0) continued to play well in the second half, and took a 20 point lead with just over 14:00 left in the game.

CSM (1-2) wasn't done yet, and the Hawks slowly clawed their way back into the game.  Kristina Johnson hit a 3 pointer with 3:34 left to pull CSM within five at 59-54.  That was as close as the Hawks could get, as turnovers down the stretch hurt CSM, and PG hung on to win 65-59.

In the second game, the CSM men played their best half of the season, as they hung tough early with the taller more talented Owls.  The Hawks used a controlled offense to slow down the game, and trailed by only eight, 29-17 at the break.  Bryan Payne led CSM in scoring with 6 points, and collected several assists from the center position.

PG (2-0) got their offense untracked in the second half.  Between the inside play of Travis Benton, and the outside shooting of Charlie Smallwood (24 pts, 5- 3 pointers), and Louis Benson (20 pts, 4- 3 pointers) the Owls pulled away to a 87-49 win.

James Shepherd led CSM (0-5), with 15 points, and collected several rebounds.  Hawk center Bryan Payne played well, working hard on the boards against the taller Owls.

The men's next game is Dec. 1, when they travel to North Carolina to play the Pfeiffer JV.  The women are off until after the Thanksgiving holiday, when they will host Allegany on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and Washington Bible on Thursday, Dec. 5.  Both games start at 4:30 PM in the Hawks Nest.
