DRAGONS NIP HAWKS 90-86

Wednesday, December 18 -  The CSM men's basketball team was looking for their first win tonight and came close, falling to Howard 90-86.  The Hawks had trailed by as much as 14 points in the second half, but clawed their way back into the game over the last eight minutes.  CSM (0-12, 0-5) had a chance to tie the game with three seconds left, but J'Vaughn Hawkins' hurried three pointer bounced off the rim.  Jamar Purnell grabbed the rebound and was fouled, making one of two for the final margin.

The first half remained close, with neither team able to pull away.  A three pointer by James Shepherd followed by a jump shot from J'Vaughn Hawkins gave CSM it's largest margin at 15-10 with 13:22 left.

Jeff Garnett's three point play gave the Dragons their largest advantage, 27-19 with 4:06 left.  CSM cut into the lead, but Howard remained in front, 41-36 at the half.

Hawkins made four 3 pointers for the Hawks, and lead the team in scoring with 19.  Brian Payne added 10 pts.

Jared Woodley led Howard with 23 points, including six from outside the arch.  Eric Breeland and Jamar Purnell both added 22 for the Dragons.

This was the last game for the Hawks before the Christmas break.  CSM returns to action on Saturday, January 4 when they travel to Cecil for a 7:00 game.
