HAWKS WIN AT BUZZER FOR 4TH STRAIGHT Wednesday, February 5 - Jason Stone scored the winning basket with :03 left in the game, as the Hawks outscored Harford 26-6 over the last 4:38 of the game to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and win their fourth straight. After trailing most of the second half, CSM (6-18, 4-11) was down 88-73 with 4:38 left in the game, before starting their final rally. Jermaine Tinch pulled the Hawks to within two at 90-88 after making one of two foul shots with 1:35 left. Tim Comer gave the Owls some breathing room by making both ends of a one and one to give Harford (5-15) a 92-88 lead with 1:29 left. CSM turned the ball over on the next possession, only to have Harford give the ball right back. Jacob Saffran's drive to the basket cut the Owl's lead to two at 92-90. Bryan Payne stole the inbounds pass and scored in the lane, to tie the game at 92-92. Teon Edwards gave Harford their final lead at 94-92 after sinking two free throws with :58 left. Jermaine Tinch was fouled on the next possession. His first shot rolled all the way around the rim before dropping through. His second shot hit nothing but net, and the game was tied again at 94. Harford patiently worked the ball around, but missed the shot, and the Hawks rebounded with :15 left. CSM worked the ball around, finally getting the ball to Stone who's twisting shot in the game got nothing but net, It was a fitting end to one of his best performances of the year, as he finished with a team high 23 points. Jermaine Tinch hit 3 out of 4 technical free throws for the final 99-94 margin, after a Harford player slammed the ball in frustration after Stone's basket, and a Harford assistant coach cursed at the officials. Harford's Teon Edwards led all scorer's with 27 points, including five from behind the three point arch. CSM had balanced scoring, as Jermaine Tinch added 18, and Jacob Saffran had 16 for the Hawks. CSM will play at Rockville Saturday night, before playing their final home game next Wednesday, against Allegany at 8:00 PM. |
