HAWKS SOAR PAST CRUSADERS 90-66

Friday, November 21 - The CSM men's basketball team overcame a sluggish first half to defeat Christendom for their first win of the 2003-04 season.  With the score tied at 55-55 mid-way through the second half the Hawks outscored the Crusaders 31-5 and won the game going away.

CSM (1-2) struggled in the first half, and it looked like they might go down to their third defeat in as many tries.  Ice cold shooting and numerous turnovers plagued the Hawks, as they trailed by as much as 14 points.

Kevin Fox led Christendom (4-4) with 16 first half points, most of them in the paint, and Patrick Vanderwoode hit three 3 pointers, several well behind the arch, and a pair of free throws for 11 points.

Robbie Briscoe's steal and 3 pt. play cut the margin to 43-34 at the half.

Both teams played as if the ball had been dunked in grease to start the second half,  with cold shooting and numerous turnovers.  The Hawks slowly inched closer, and Ryan Rabon's 3 pointer gave the Hawks their first lead at 48-47 with 13:45 left.

The game remained close, with six lead changes and two ties, before CSM went on their run with just over 10:00 left in the half.

Doug Cornwell led a balanced Hawk attack with 16 points, Adam Halvorson had 11, and Justin Wines and Jerry Parker both added 9 points.

The Hawks will be off until after the Thanksgiving break.  Their next game will be against conference rival Catonsville on December 3 at 4:30 PM, in the "Hawks Nest" at CSM.
