HAWKS WIN FINAL HOME GAME

February 15, 2006 - The CSM men's basketball team won their final home game of the season, defeating Rockville 97-86 on "Sophomore Night".  CSM players Marko Hamlin, Anthony Stowe, and Bruce Fort played their final game in the "Hawks Nest".  Anthony Stowe enjoyed his final home game, leading all scorer's with 29 points, Marko Hamlin had 18 points, and Bruce Fort played a solid game scoring 4 points.  Keith Wagner added 21 points for the Hawks, and Sean Ussery scored in double figures with 14 pts.

Sylvester Brooks led Rockville with 23 points, and Fred Lyles added 16 for the Knights.

Both teams started out ice cold from the field, as only eight points were scored in the first four minutes, with the score tied at 4-4.  The scoring heated up, as the Hawks jumped to a 9-4 lead, but David Jones' basket tied the game for the Knights at 12-12 with 11:50 left in the half.

That was as close as Rockville (11-12, 6-8) would come the rest of the game, as the Hawks moved to a 47-32 halftime lead.  Anthony Stowe's basket gave the Hawks their biggest lead of the game 58-34, with 15:35 left to play.

Rockville battled back, cutting the lead to thirteen points, and then to eleven points, but CSM (7-16, 5-9) had an answer to every Rockville rally.  The Hawks sealed the game from the free throw line, as Rockville was forced to foul, and CSM scored eight of their final ten points from the charity stripe.

CSM will end the season with a pair of road games, at Hagerstown on Friday (7:00 PM) and at Takoma Park on Saturday (1:00 PM), before participating in the MDJUCO Tournament the last week of February.
