CSM BASKETBALL COACH DALE BECRAFT RESIGNS
April 23, 2007 -
Due to a number of health-related issues,
Dale Becraft has announced his resignation as the head men's basketball
coach at the College of Southern Maryland.
“Due to a myriad of health related issues that have arisen, it is with deep
sadness that I must announce my resignation from the position of Head Men’s
Basketball Coach at the College of Southern Maryland. I will follow closely
the progress of the program and I am sure that it will quickly move forward
under new and capable leadership,” Becraft said.
"We are all saddened by Coach Becraft's news professionally, but more than
that personally. Dale is a gentlemen of the game and of life. The
most important thing for Dale and his family to focus on right now is his
health and his recovery. CSM Athletics will keep Dale and his family
in their thoughts as the Becrafts work towards his healing," said Michelle
Ruble, Assistant Director of Student Life - Athletics.
Ruble announced that Assistant Coach Alan Hoyt has been promoted to the
position of head coach.
Hoyt
has been working closely with Coach Becraft in recruiting for next year, and
a smooth transition is expected. Hoyt has previous collegiate coaching
experience at St. Mary’s College, where he was an assistant during the
2005-06 season.
