HAWKS CRUISE PAST SOUTHSIDE IN SEASON OPENER
November 8, 2006 -
The CSM men's basketball team opened the
season in convincing fashion, giving Southside a 119-90 thumping.
Jordan Daisy led all scorers with 33 points (27 in the first half), and
Justin Jackson, Derrick Baker, and Sean Ussery each added 16 for the Hawks.
A. Moffitt led the Panthers in scoring with 22.
CSM (1-0) raced to an early 37-18 lead with midway through the first half,
and the stunned Panthers were never able to get closer then 13 pts. the rest
of the evening. The Hawks used a stifling defense, while hitting the
offensive boards for many second chance points, to help build a commanding
69-43 lead at halftime.
Southside (0-1) was able to cut into the lead mid-way through the second
half. The Panthers turned up the defense, begin to limit CSM to one
shot, and the Hawks offense seemed out of sync as Southside cut the lead to
85-72 with 11:52 left in the game. However the Hawks were able to
regain their rhythm on offense, and outscored the Panthers 34-18 the rest of
the game for the final 119-90 margin.
CSM will play two games at home next week, facing Germantown on Monday, and
Chesapeake Wednesday, with both games starting at 7:00 PM, before
participating in the Essex Tournament next weekend.
