CSM RALLY FALLS SHORT AS HAWKS FALL TO
ANNE ARUNDEL
February 13, 2008 - After trailing by
nine points, 51-42, with 9:00 left in the second half, the Hawks rallied to
take the lead late in the game, but the comeback effort fell just short as
Anne Arundel escaped with a 66-64 win.
CSM (4-20, 2-14) went on a tear, outscoring
the Pioneers 19-9 during a five minute span late in the second half.
Vincent Owens lay-up gave the Hawks a 61-60 lead with 2:44 to play.
Justin Brown hit one of two free throws to
tie the game at 61-61 with 1:56 remaining. Laron Mann answered with a
3 pointer, giving CSM a 64-61 lead with 1:39 left in the game.
Andre Dotson scored on a lay-up to trim the
Hawk lead to 64-63 with 1:27 left to play, and after a Hawk miss Kendrick
Maybank scored from inside to regain the lead for the Pioneers, 65-64,
with just 43.6 seconds left.
Leshawn Nash's shot was off the mark, and the
Hawks were forced to foul. Derek Jenkins missed both foul shots for
the Pioneers, but CSM turned the ball over without getting a shot.
Aloysius Young made one of two free throws
with 4.8 seconds left, but Mike Dickerson's three point shot at the buzzer
bounced off the rim, and Anne Arundel escaped with the 66-64 win.
Kendrick Maybank led Anne Arundel with 15
points, and Kris Effler had 12 pts.
Carlton Williams led CSM with 15 pts., and
Vincent Owens added 13 pts.
CSM will host undefeated Cecil, ranked #1 in
the country, in their final regular season game on Friday at 7:00 PM. |
