BRUNSWICK PULLS AWAY IN 2ND HALF TO
DEFEAT HAWKS
November 30, 2007 - The CSM men's
basketball team played a strong first half against Brunswick (NC), but wore
down in the 2nd half and fell to the Dolphins 102-85.
CSM faced a big height disadvantage, as
Brunswick featured four players 6' 8" or bigger, while the Hawks tallest
player is only 6' 3". Despite the size difference, the Hawks went toe
to toe with the Dolphins, as the lead changed hands several times in an
exhiting first half.
After Brunswick (8-1) opened the game with a
5-0 lead, CSM (2-5, 0-1) battled back to take the lead 6-5 on Delonte Gray's
jump shot. That set the stage for an action packed first half, with
the lead changing hands several times during the first fifteen minutes, with
neither team able to manage more then a four point lead.
Carlton Williams lay-up gave the Hawks their
last lead, 26-24, with under seven minutes to play. CSM trailed by
just two, 32-30 with five minutes left in the first half, before the
Dolphins went on a 15-9 run to close the half and take a 47-39 lead at the
break.
Brunswick was able to slowly extend their
lead in the 2nd half, leading by as much as 22 points. The Hawks
continued to play hard, and slowly cut into the Dolphin lead. Brandon
Dukes 3 pointer cut the margin to 90-77 with 4:12 to play, but that was as
close as the Hawks would come to tying the game.
Brandon Dukes led CSM with 19 points, Laron
Mann had 18, and Carlton Williams added 10.
Myles Holly led Brunswick with 18 pts., and
reserves Travis Foster (15 pts.), and Chris Hovemale (13 pts.) paced the
Dolphins.
CSM travels to Dundalk (Sat.) and Allegany
(Wed.) before returning home on Dec. 7 to play Baltimore at 7:00 PM.
