HAWKS LOSE LEAD - FALL TO CATONSVILLE
January 30, 2008 - After leading for
most of the second half, the Hawks shooting went cold down the stretch, and
the CSM men's basketball team lost to Catonsville 65-57.
CSM (4-16, 2-11) led by seven points, 45-38,
with 11:30 left in the game after Dominic Cooper hit a lay-up on a CSM
fastbreak. Catonsville (5-13, 4-7) slowly chipped away at the Hawk
lead, and James Thomas' three point play gave the Cardinals their first lead
of the second half, 46-45 with 8:58 remaining in the game. CSM would
never regain the lead, as cold shooting and turnovers hurt the Hawks down
the stretch.
Catonsville raced to an early lead in the
game, leading by as much as 10 points in the first half. Laron Mann
rebounded his own miss to tie the score at 30-30, and his two free throws
gave the Hawks their first lead of the game, as CSM outscored the Cardinals
20-4 in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 36-30 lead at the
break.
Latrell Alford led Catonsville in scoring
with 18 pts., and Carlton Williams, Mike Dickerson, and Leshaun Nash paced
the Hawk attack with 10 pts. each.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, when
they face Takoma Park at 7:00 PM, in the second game of a doubleheader
on Homecoming. The CSM women will face NOVA at 5:00 PM. |
