NOVA DEFEATS HAWKS 80-62
February 5, 2008 - Cold shooting
plagued the Hawks all evening, as the CSM men's basketball team fell to
Northern Virginia Community College 80-62.
It looked like NOVA (8-14) was going to put
the game away early, as they raced to a sixteen point lead in the first six
minutes of the game. Mike Abdul-Jabbar scored seven points in a row, a
three pointer and two lay-ups, to give the Raiders a 20-4 lead with 14:18
left in the first half.
CSM (4-18, 2-12) slowly cut into the lead.
Carlton Williams' three point shot cut the NOVA lead to eight, 31-23, with
5:35 left in the first half. The Raiders then outscored the Hawks 10-6
to take a 41-29 lead at the break.
The Hawks cut the lead to seven points twice
in the second half, but that was as close as they could come as NOVA pulled
away for the win.
Sam Eligwe led the Raiders with 22 pts.,
while Ryan Allen and Mike Abdul-Jabbar had 17 each for NOVA.
Mike Dickerson led the Hawks with 18 pts.,
Brandon Dukes had 16 pts., and Laron Mann 13 pts., for CSM.
The Hawks continue their homestand on Friday
when they host Chesapeake at 7:00 PM. |
