HAWKS STUN PRINCE GEORGE'S
January 11, 2007 - Vincent Owens
scored the winning basket with just 12.5 seconds on the clock, as CSM pulled
the upset, defeating Prince George's 77-75. Owens scored on a drive to
the basket, giving him a game high 20 points for the evening. Prince
George's launched a three pointer at the buzzer, but it bounced off the rim,
giving the Hawks the win.
Prince George's (9-6, 5-3) had the lead for
most of the first half, before the Hawks scored the final four points of the
half to take a 35-32 lead at the break.
The roles were reversed in the second half,
as CSM (3-12, 1-7) had the lead for most of the second half. Robert
Spencer hit a 3 pointer for P.G. to tie the game at 69-69 with 3:35, setting
off an exciting finish to the game.
CSM retook the lead, 71-69 on Vincent Owens'
drive to the basket, with 3:19 to play. Eric Vann hit one of two free
throws for the Owls to shave the margin to 71-70 with 2:43 left.
Laron Mann gave the Hawks a three point lead
after a drive to the basket, and Brandon Dukes baseline jumper extended the
Hawks lead to 75-70 with 1:18 remaining.
The Owls battled back, as Tauvon Pettiford
hit a baseline jumper cutting the Hawks lead to 75-72 with :52 to play.
The Hawks were unable to score on their next possession, and Spencer hit
another three for the Owls, knotting the score at 75-75, setting the stage
for Vincent Owens last second heroics.
Brandon Dukes was in double figures for the
Hawks with 18 points, and Laron Mann had 13 pts.
Spencer led Prince George's with 18 points,
and Vann added 17 for the Owls.
CSM will begin a four game road trip on
Monday, Jan. 14 when they travel to Allegany for a 7:00 PM game. The
Hawks next home game is Jan. 30 vs. Catonsville at 7:00 PM.
