HAWKS RALLY FALLS SHORT
November 13, 2008 - After trailing for
most of the first half, the CSM men's basketball team rallied to take the
lead in the second half, only to see NOVA pull away at the end to win 93-84.
Northern Virginia Community College (2-5)
controlled the pace for most of the first half, using their height advantage
to control the boards, and force the Hawks to miss from inside on offense.
The Raiders biggest lead was 12 points mid-way through the half (21-9), and
NOVA held a 45-32 lead at halftime.
CSM (0-1) came out on fire to begin the
second half, using an aggressive pressure defense to force turn-overs and
take NOVA out of their rhythm on offense. The Hawks quickly erased the
deficit, and Chris Brown's lay-up tied the game at 50-50 with 15:11 left to
play. SaQuan Brown's two free throws gave the Hawks their first lead
at 52-50, with 14:24 to play.
For the rest of the game the lead see-sawed
back and forth, with six lead changes, and four ties, as neither team was
establish dominance and take control of the game. Finally, in the
final few minutes, NOVA was able to slowly pull away to the final nine point
win.
Chris Brown led the Hawks with 21 points,
while Sterling Doleman added 15, and Bryan Morgan had 11 points.
Sam Eligwe led the Raiders with 27 points,
and Joe Shewmaker had 21 points.
The Hawks will continue their home stand with
three games next week; hosting St. Mary's JV on Monday (8:00 PM), Tidewater
on Tuesday (6:00 PM), and Allegany on Friday (7:00 PM). |
