HAWKS WEATHER STORM FOR WIN

November 18, 2008 - The CSM men's basketball team broke open a close game, outscoring the Tidewater Storm 15-4 over the final three minutes to win 87-76.

With the score tied 72-72, Byron Morgan hit a 3 pointer to start the Hawks run.  Brandon Jarmen hit a lay-up off a fast break and Chris Brown hit two free throws giving the Hawks a 79-72 lead.  Darrion Tillman hit two free throws for the Storm to cut the margin to 79-74.  CSM turned up the defense pressure and scored the next eight points to put the game away.  Thomas Young hit two free throws, then followed up with a dunk.  Laron Mann hit a lay-up off another Hawk fast break, and Saquan Brown put the exclamation point on the evening with another dunk for the Hawks.

CSM (2-1) opened the game with a 10-4 run, only to see the Storm surge ahead with eight unanswered points to take a 12-10 lead.  The game remained close the rest of the way, with neither team able to pull away until the Hawks made their run in the final three minutes.

Thomas Young led the Hawks with 16 points, and Saquan Brown had 15.

Byron Carpenter led Tidewater (1-5) with 17 points, followed by Devon Stokes with 16 pts.

The Hawks will be at home again on Friday, when they open conference play against Allegany at 7:00 PM.
