MEN'S SOCCER WINS OPENER

September 5, 2002 - The Hawks won their season opener, defeating Northern Virginia Community College 4-0.  Wyatt Sagers netted the Hawks first goal of the season, with Travis Breiner getting the assist.  Scott Villagran made a nice cross off a corner kick to Brandon Catena, who put the Hawks up 2-0 at the half.

Catena was involved in CSM's third goal, sending a nice pass to Brandon Evans in front of the goal to put the Hawks up 3-0.  Evans assisted on the final Hawks goal, feeding Scott Raley for the final margin.

David Wood earned the shut-out in goal.

"It was our first game, and we were sloppy at times" said Head Coach Tony Galeano.

"We had good moments, and sloppy moments.  We have lots to work on.  We only had one scrimmage, and had first game jitters.  We're a new team, and it will take some time to jell."

The Hawks go on a four game road trip, beginning with Allegany on Saturday.  Their next home game will be Wednesday, September 18 vs. Hagerstown at 4:00 PM.
