HAWKS CLIP CARDINALS 6-1 Wednesday, October 9 - Gene Barrett scored two goals, and Scott Raley, Scott Villagran, Stuart Herd, and Scott Wood each scored once, as the CSM men's soccer team defeated Catonsville 6-1. CSM (11-2, 9-1) scored first after a wild scramble in front of the net twelve minutes into the game. Scott Villagran's shot on goal was deflected and trickled in front of the goal. The ball came to Chris Cary on the right side, who eluded the diving goalkeeper and crossed the ball to Scott Raley. Raley tapped the ball into the open net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. After a tripping call on Catonsville, Scott Wood scored on a penalty kick to give CSM a 2-0 lead. Catonsville (2-10, 2-6) cut the margin to one when Ryan Dekno found net after a nice pass from Jose Vera with 12:30 left in the half. It took the Hawks less then two minutes to get their two goal lead back, when Stuart Herd scored after a nice cross from Chris Cary, who had three assists in the game. With 4:45 left in the half, Jose Vera broke in on goal, and Austin Flowers made the save of the game with a finger tip stop, as he pushed the shot over the top of the goal. The second half was all Hawks, as Scott Villigram increased the lead to 4-1 on a free kick. Gene Barrett scored the final two goals for the Hawks. The first was a beautiful shot from 25 yards out that found the upper left corner after a feed from Cary. The final goal came as Barrett cut in, received a feed from Scott Villigram, and found net from 18 yards out. CSM will play at Prince George's on Friday (3:30 PM), before playing their final home game of the year next Tuesday against nationally ranked Essex. Game time is 4:00 PM. CSM will conclude the regular season at Rockville on Friday, October 18, at 3:30 PM.
