HAWKS DOWN HAGERSTOWN 5-1

Wednesday, September 18 - Chris Cary and Scott Raley each scored two goals to lead CSM to a 5-1 win over Hagerstown.  CSM improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while Hagerstown falls to 3-2.

CSM dominated play early, and Brandon Evans had a great chance to open the scoring when he made an excellent  move and broke in alone on goal.  Only a diving stop by Hagerstown goalie Brandon Rethmyer prevented the goal.

The Hawks broke on top with 24:44 left when Scott Villagran booted a corner kick flat on the ground to the center of the goal which eluded everyone until Bobby Marino knocked it in for a 1-0 CSM lead.

Scott Raley had two excellent chances to extend the lead, but shot wide and just missed minutes later on a header.

Chris Cary extended the lead to 2-0 with 8:00 left when he found the back of the net from the right side, after receiving a nifty pass from Andrew Thompson.  Both Thompson and Carey had entered the game only minutes earlier.

Cary completed the first half scoring with just 43 seconds left in the half, with Scott Raley getting the assist, for a 3-0 CSM lead at halftime.

CSM continued to dominate the game in the second half, and out shot Hagerstown 27-9 for the game.  Scott Raley scored with 33:33 left in the second half off a fine pass from Scotty Villagran.

Chris Lance broke the shut out for Hagerstown, tipping in Louie Doan's pass with 25:14 left to cut the Hawks lead to 4-1.

Raley finished the scoring with 1:30 left.  Andrew Thompson got his second assist of the evening.

CSM returns to action on Friday, when they host Frederick for a 3:30 PM game.
